My journey to get better at my job
I’m an entrepreneur. I wear a lot of hats as I try and get new business ideas off the ground.
On any given day, I’ll write code, sell to an important customer, make adjustments to the financial plan, and recruit. I’ve done nearly every job at a tech company. I love what I do.
A few years ago I enrolled at one of the best business schools in the world. I spent a lot of money going there. I invested two entire years trying to get better at my job. It was worth every penny AND I want more.
I’m not done yet. My career is in the first inning. I’m just getting started.
My goal is to be a better entrepreneur and business leader. I want to get better at my job.
How do we go about getting better at our jobs?
If you’re like me, then you listen to a lot of podcasts. You subscribe to more Substacks than you can possibly read.
You have a list a mile long of books you’re trying to read. You are deliberate on how you follow on Twitter so you get a steady stream of new ideas. You might even make more of an investment and hire an executive coach.
These are all great but I’m left feeling I’m missing out somehow. It’s not deliberate enough.
This is where I’m landing. I need a more deliberate learning strategy. I need curriculum and I need a way to identify where I need to focus then have effective learning strategies to get the most out of my time.
I have maybe 30-45 minutes max per day I can devote to learning. Some days nothing. I need to make the most out of this time.
I’m on a journey to learn how to learn on the job better so I can level up my skills. I want to be the best version of myself. A better leader. A better entrepreneur. A better person.
