Using Machine Learning to become a Learning Machine
LLMs are incredible at creating custom quizzes on the fly. They take the knowledge of the internet and can generate a quiz, catered to my learning level, on most any topic I’m studying.
When I learned the importance of quizzing yourself to learn, I knew I had struck gold.
Here is my process I follow to learn leverage machine learning (i.e. ChatGPT) to super power my learning machine:
Step #1 - Choose what you want to learn
I try to have my podcasts, books, and blogs follow a theme. For example, right now I’m studying sales strategy for early stage companies. I have a number of blogs I read, a book, and a podcast.
Step #2 - Write a prompt to ask ChatGPT to generate a quiz
Here is an example prompt:
I’m trying to learn about [theme of what you are learning]. I’m reading this blog post, [link to blog post] to help me learn [theme of what you are learning]. I want you to create a quiz to help me understand the contents of the blog post better. Start with a single question. Once I answer the question, provide me a grade on my response and a suggestion on how I can make my response better.
Step #3 - Take the quiz
Answer the quiz question. Go back and forth with ChatGPT to understand the topic better.
Remember the quizzing is one of the best ways to learn effectively.
Step #4 - Repeat often
I try and come back daily to what I’m learning. I give it a new blog post I just read or tell it I finished a chapter in a book. This engages a number of learning processes in my brain that are well studied. You want to see information frequently to not forget it (the idea behind spaced repetition techniques). Intuitively it makes sense that the more I come back to a topic the more my brain will remember it.
There you go! Give it a try and let me know what you think and how you’d improve it.
P.S. I create this custom GPT called Quiz Professor to make it even easier. Just tell Quiz Professor what you are studying and it will do the rest.
